Day 28 - 8 September - travel to Manchester

Packed ourselves up and drove back up the M6 to Manchester.  The traffic was again fairly heavy, but no delays today - not on our side of the road anyway; the southbound side was at a stop in a couple of places.

Although we had a leisurely start to the day we still arrived in Manchester too early to check in to the hotel, so we went to the Trafford Centre.  This is one of the biggest shopping centres in the UK - I came here last time we were in England, but Paul hadn't seen it because he was off visiting a wargame shop in Nottingham that day.  It's an outrageous place - huge, and with astounding baroque sort of design.  It's not a normal shopping centre in the sense that it doesn't contain a grocery store for example (not one I could find anyway) - it's mostly specialty shops, the biggest shopping centre food court in Europe and the busiest cinema in the UK.  Paul was underwhelmed.

Unfortunately the timing wasn't right to see any movie we were interested in, but we managed to fill in some time until it was time to drop the car off.

We then got a taxi into the city to our hotel, checked in and went for a walk.  Of course because we've stayed here before, we knew where to go - but this time we have a lot more time to spend here and so will be able to see a lot more of the city.
